About

The Mindful Nation Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was inspired by U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan, author of the best-selling book, A Mindful Nation. Established in 2013, our mission is to help everyday Americans lead healthier, more fulfilling lives by promoting the use of evidence-based contemplative practices that support emotional and physical health, strengthen community, and increase our innate human capacity. We are building a national grassroots, ambassador-led community designed to spark, nurture and support a sustainable movement. This movement will inspire evidence-based mindful living programs and activities within five pivotal segments of our society: veterans, children, teachers, leaders and healthcare professionals.

A Message from Our President

Recognizing the need for collective impact and the urgency, we created the foundation with an entrepreneurial spirit designed to be lean, nimble and responsive to the pressing needs of our communities. The Mindful Nation Foundation serves as a central backbone function and provides the ability to bring together inspired Americans with proven solution providers, national experts, visionary donors and charismatic leaders to create “proof of concept” programming towards developing scalable national models to reach a broader audience of mainstream Americans.

Taking risks that other larger organizations cannot, our lean but dedicated team – with the strong support from major influencers – marshals the resources, experts and leaders needed to turn great new ideas into sustainable programs.

Rooted in our faith in the human spirit and the power of collective action, our goal at Mindful Nation is to ignite a quiet revolution in the hearts and minds of the American people, a revolution that will call upon every American to:

  • Remember our interdependence with each other and the larger world
  • Confront and heal the trauma of wars
  • Honor each other’s service and sacrifice
  • Express our needs and share our strengths
  • Deepen our resourcefulness and resilience, and
  • Act with authenticity, intention and compassion

Every day, every one of us is faced with opportunities to make choices that shape our futures. All too often we tend to focus on the big choices in life, when the small ones can have more of an impact on the quality of our life. Unfortunately, too many of us wait for the next government, the next president, or the next employer to solve our problems by make those choices for us.

If you do not make these decisions for yourself, then someone else or something else will decide for you – and not always with your best interest in mind. But the power to alter your destiny is really in your hands — in your ability to make choices on a moment-by-moment basis.

I’d like to encourage you to join us in building a Mindful Nation. Take the first step, by taking the time to reflect on your own life and the choices you make. Then, consider how you can support our Foundation with your financial contribution and your energy. While we have done so much with so little, it takes the support of key partners and individual supporters in communities across the country to help scale this movement and truly realize a Mindful Nation.

Thank you for your support.
